Agartala: July 01: In a major push to promote spiritual and cultural tourism, the Tripura Tourism Department is set to construct a replica of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Udaipur, Gomati District. The landmark project, costing ₹97.70 crore, has been approved by the Union Ministry of Tourism under the ‘Swadesh Darshan SASKI Scheme’.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will lay the foundation stone for the project on July 10 in Udaipur, known as the temple city of Tripura.

Ahead of the ceremony, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury conducted a site visit on Tuesday along with key officials, including the DM & Collector of Gomati, Director of Tourism, Additional SP, SDPO, Executive Engineer (Tourism), SDM Udaipur, tehsildars, and agency representatives.

Describing the project as “visionary,” Minister Chowdhury said it will serve as a major spiritual and cultural attraction for pilgrims and tourists from across India and abroad. “By replicating the 51 Shakti Peethas, we are not only honoring our heritage but also creating a world-class pilgrimage destination,” he stated.

The initiative is expected to significantly boost the local economy by generating employment opportunities, promoting hospitality and transport sectors, and encouraging small businesses. Chowdhury also highlighted that under the leadership of CM Dr. Manik Saha, Tripura is emerging as a vibrant and inclusive tourism hub.

Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma confirmed that the work order has been issued and construction will commence shortly. “The foundation stone laying marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Banduar,” he said, expressing confidence that the site will soon evolve into a premier tourist destination blending devotion, heritage, and architectural excellence.
