Khowai, July 11, 2025:
Police at the Baijalbari checkpoint on the Khowai–Mohanpur stretch in Tripura detained two Bangladeshi nationals on Friday evening during a routine inspection. The individuals were traveling in an auto-rickshaw from Baijalbari toward Khowai when they were intercepted.

According to Police Official Jugal Tripura, officers from the Baijalbari Police Station stopped the vehicle for routine checking. During questioning, two passengers failed to provide valid Indian identification documents. Upon further interrogation, the individuals admitted that they were Bangladeshi citizens who had entered India and were traveling from Mohanpur to Khowai.

The detained individuals have been identified as Khokan Sarkar and Anik Sarkar. Both were immediately taken to the Baijalbari Police Station for further investigation.

“We are currently conducting a thorough inquiry to understand the nature and purpose of their entry into Indian territory,” said a senior police official. Authorities are looking into possible routes used to cross the border, the duration of their stay, and any local contacts or facilitators that may have aided their movement within Tripura.

The incident has once again brought attention to the issue of illegal border crossings in Tripura, a state that shares a long and porous border with Bangladesh. Security at border-adjacent checkpoints has been intensified in recent months, especially amid concerns about undocumented migration and its implications for internal security.

Local police have confirmed that legal procedures are being followed and the matter will be reported to the appropriate immigration and intelligence authorities. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
