A tragic incident of lightning strike claimed the lives of two siblings in Tripura’s Nabincherra area under Pecharthal police station on Saturday, leaving the local community in deep shock and grief. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm activity that affected several parts of the region during the day.

The deceased were identified as Sumanta Chakma, aged 30, and his younger sister Mina Chakma, aged 27. Their sudden and untimely deaths have cast a shadow of sorrow over the locality, with residents and family members struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

According to local sources, the area witnessed intense weather conditions beginning in the afternoon, with heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and frequent lightning activity. Residents reported that dark clouds had gathered over the region as the weather deteriorated rapidly, resulting in thunderstorm conditions across several surrounding areas.

At the time of the incident, the two siblings were reportedly inside their house when a powerful lightning strike occurred. The impact of the strike critically injured both of them. Family members and neighbours rushed to help immediately after the incident and arranged for them to be taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

However, despite efforts to save them, doctors attending to the victims declared both siblings dead upon arrival at the hospital. The incident sent shockwaves through the area and drew residents to the family’s home as news of the tragedy spread.

The heartbreaking incident has left the family devastated. Neighbours and local residents gathered to offer support and condolences to the grieving family members, many of whom were seen mourning the sudden loss.

The incident has also once again highlighted the dangers associated with severe weather and lightning strikes during the monsoon and storm season. Authorities and disaster management officials frequently advise people to remain indoors and avoid exposure to open areas during lightning activity and severe thunderstorms.

As the region continues to witness changing weather patterns and storm-related conditions, residents have been urged to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
