Agartala, May 21: Doctors and healthcare workers at Unakoti District Hospital have demonstrated remarkable medical expertise and swift response by successfully saving the life of a 32-year-old pregnant woman through an emergency surgical procedure.

The patient, a resident of Halaichhara, was brought to the hospital in a critical condition after suffering severe abdominal pain and heavy internal bleeding. Medical examinations conducted immediately after her arrival revealed that she had developed a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition in which a fertilized embryo grows outside the uterus.

According to doctors, the pregnancy had developed in the patient’s right fallopian tube. The rupture had caused severe internal hemorrhaging, placing her life at immediate risk and requiring urgent medical intervention.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the medical team acted quickly and shifted the patient to the operation theatre without delay. The emergency surgery was performed under general anesthesia on May 18 at approximately 12:45 pm.

During the procedure, surgeons successfully removed accumulated blood from the abdominal cavity, controlled the internal bleeding, repaired the affected area and took necessary measures to stabilize the patient. Doctors also transfused one unit of blood during the operation to compensate for blood loss and improve her condition.

The operation was led by gynecologist Dr. Sujit Das and anesthesiologist Dr. Amit Pal. They were assisted by nursing officer Smriti Das, operation theatre technician Subhash Sinha and other members of the medical staff who worked together to ensure the success of the surgery.

Hospital sources stated that the patient responded well to treatment and is currently under close medical observation. Her condition is reported to be stable.

Family members of the patient expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and healthcare workers for their timely intervention and dedicated care.

Officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department also praised the hospital team for their commitment and professionalism, describing the incident as an example of both medical excellence and humanitarian service in public healthcare.
