Agartala, July 2: A high-level delegation led by Meera Srivastava, Joint Secretary of the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Division under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), conducted a comprehensive review of healthcare services and the implementation of national health programmes in South Tripura district on Wednesday.

The delegation included Tripura National Health Mission (NHM) Joint Mission Director Dr Jubilee Debbarma, State Surveillance Officer (IDSP) Dr Antara Banik, State Programme Officer (RCH) Dr Ishita Guha, UNDP State Programme Officer Gauri Shankar Pati, and UNDP UCPR Moumita Gope. The team was received by the District Magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of South Tripura.

A detailed review meeting was held with the District Magistrate, the CMO and senior district health officials to assess the overall healthcare situation in the district. Discussions focused on the progress of the immunisation programme, the prevailing measles situation, malaria control measures, maternal and child health services, and the implementation of various flagship programmes under the National Health Mission.

During the meeting, Srivastava stressed the need to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots level and directed officials to ensure that government health services reach every eligible beneficiary, particularly those living in remote and difficult-to-access areas.

She also emphasised the importance of timely data collection, prompt reporting and maintaining accuracy in records related to different National Health Mission programmes, stating that quality data plays a crucial role in effective planning and policy implementation.

Following the review meeting, the delegation visited Bashkadua Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) under Amjadnagar Gram Panchayat, which comes under the Matai Primary Health Centre. The team interacted with doctors, healthcare personnel and ASHA workers and reviewed the implementation of immunisation drives, maternal and child healthcare services and other essential public health programmes.

The delegation also visited villages located along the India-Bangladesh international border to understand the healthcare challenges faced by border residents and assess the availability of medical services in these remote areas.

Later, the team inspected Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH), where they reviewed patient care services, hospital infrastructure, availability of medicines, medical facilities and the implementation of ongoing national health programmes.

Concluding the visit, Srivastava appreciated the efforts of district health officials, doctors, frontline healthcare workers and ASHA workers for their commitment to improving public health services. She directed officials to further strengthen measles surveillance, intensify awareness campaigns at the grassroots level and enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services across South Tripura.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the implementation of national health programmes, monitoring field-level activities and ensuring efficient, accessible and quality healthcare services for people across the district.
