AGratala: Dec 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated state-of-the-art Border Guarding Force (BGF) accommodations at Agartala and Petrapole land ports today, marking a significant step in enhancing the welfare and operational efficiency of India’s border security forces.
Petrapole, the largest land port in India, serves as a vital gateway for trade with Bangladesh. It plays a crucial role in facilitating bilateral trade, contributing to the economic development of both nations. The new accommodation facilities at Petrapole will improve the operational capabilities of the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed there, ensuring a more efficient security framework at this key trade hub.
Similarly, the Agartala land port, located on the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, is an essential link for trade and communication between the two countries. The upgraded facilities, including the new accommodations for security personnel, are expected to bolster trade, enhance border management, and stimulate local economic growth.
Approved in December 2018 with an investment of around Rs. 55 crores, the new facilities aim to enhance the living standards of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel. In Petrapole, the accommodation complex spans 13,339 square meters and includes blocks for officers, subordinate officers, jawans, and a women’s unit. It features modern amenities such as dining areas, kitchens, and rest facilities.
In Agartala, the accommodation covers 8,093.7 square meters and offers blocks with all essential amenities for the personnel. A women’s block has been built to house 8 women jawans, while the officer’s block accommodates 5 officers. The facility also includes a four-story subordinate officer’s block and a jawan’s block for 128 jawans, with dining, kitchen, and multipurpose spaces.
These new accommodations reflect the government’s commitment to providing modern and comfortable living spaces for security forces, vital for efficient border management and fostering strong bilateral relations.
