Agartala, June 14: The West Tripura District Police has issued fresh guidelines restricting police and TSR personnel from creating or sharing social media content while in uniform, citing concerns over discipline, professionalism, and the image of the force.

The directive was issued through a memorandum from the office of the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, after authorities observed several instances of police personnel creating and uploading reels, short videos, photographs, and other content on social media platforms while wearing official uniforms.

According to the memorandum, police uniforms must not be used for personal publicity, entertainment, commercial promotion, or any activity that could tarnish the reputation of the department. The order emphasizes that the uniform represents authority, discipline, integrity, and public trust, and therefore must be treated with the utmost respect.

The memorandum specifically directs all members of the police force and TSR personnel not to create, participate in, or upload reels, videos, photographs, or any other social media content while in uniform if such content has the potential to undermine the dignity, decorum, discipline, or image of Tripura Police.

Authorities have also instructed officers to immediately report any objectionable, derogatory, or inappropriate content involving police personnel in uniform that appears on social media platforms. Such cases are to be reported through proper channels for necessary action.

The order warns that any violation of the guidelines will be viewed seriously and may result in strict departmental action under the relevant disciplinary rules.

Police officials said the move aims to preserve the professional image of the force and ensure that personnel maintain the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty. The administration believes that responsible use of social media is essential for maintaining public confidence in law enforcement agencies.

The new directive is expected to serve as a reminder that police uniforms are not merely official attire but symbols of public service and accountability, requiring disciplined and respectful representation at all times.
