Sonamura, June 15: In a shocking incident late Saturday night, a woman sustained serious burn injuries after being attacked with acid by miscreants in the NC Nagar area under Sonamura police station. The victim, identified as Rina Begum, was targeted while she stepped out to use the lavatory near her residence.

According to police sources, the acid was deliberately thrown on the lower portion of her body, causing critical injuries. The attack is suspected to be the result of a personal enmity.

The accused in the case have been identified as Suman Miah, Rubel Hussein, and Farid Miah. Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sonamura police station, and an investigation is currently underway.

Rina Begum was initially taken to the Sonamura Community Health Centre for emergency treatment. Given the severity of her injuries, she was later referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced medical care.

Local residents expressed outrage over the incident and demanded swift action against the culprits. Acid attacks are among the most heinous crimes and have long-lasting physical, emotional, and psychological effects on victims. The incident has sparked concern over the safety and security of women in the region.

Police officials confirmed that they are conducting raids to apprehend the accused and are also investigating the motive behind the attack. “Preliminary findings suggest that the incident stemmed from personal animosity, but all angles are being explored,” a police source said.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible. Meanwhile, women’s rights groups have condemned the attack and urged the administration to ensure justice and better safety measures for women in vulnerable areas.
