Agartala: April 11: Tripura was shaken by an earthquake today at 4:22:56 PM, measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale. Though the tremors were felt across various parts of the state, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.
According to the Meteorological Department located at the Agartala Airport, the epicenter of the earthquake was in neighboring Bangladesh, at coordinates 24.05° latitude and 91.37° longitude, with the quake originating 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface. The tremors were not limited to Tripura alone; they were also felt in several districts of Bangladesh including Ramganj Upazila, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur. Additionally, neighboring states such as Mizoram and Meghalaya reported mild tremors.
Although the earthquake was of moderate intensity, it triggered panic among the residents, especially in areas where tremors are rarely felt. People rushed out of their homes and offices, concerned about potential aftershocks. Fortunately, no significant damage to infrastructure or property has been reported so far from Tripura or the surrounding regions.
Tripura is classified as an earthquake-prone state due to its location in the seismically active northeastern region of India. The state has a history of tremors, and seismic activities, even of lower magnitudes, tend to stir anxiety among the public.
