Agartala, May 16: Recovery of a huge amount of cash from the residence of a police constable has triggered major controversy in Tripura, prompting a high-level investigation supervised by a DIG-rank officer. Several police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel have now come under the scanner as the probe widens.

Police constable Piyush Debbarma, who was posted in Dhalai district, has been placed under suspension following the incident. As part of the investigation, police also detained his wife along with a female employee of the Health Department for questioning regarding the source of the recovered money and possible links to the case.

The matter took a fresh turn after another video allegedly connected to the incident surfaced on social media. In the footage, TSR jawan Ajit Debbarma, attached to the 14th TSR Battalion, is reportedly seen handling and keeping cash inside plastic packets.

According to police sources, a woman constable from East Women Police Station and another TSR personnel from the 7th Battalion were also present at the location during the incident. All individuals visible in the video are currently being questioned as investigators attempt to determine their role and involvement.

Meanwhile, the controversy deepened after a separate video surfaced online in which three tribal women accused the wife of a police constable of allegedly collecting large sums of money from them in the name of investment in a privately operated bank. The women claimed that after taking the money, the accused woman later refused to recognise them and stopped responding to their phone calls.

The allegations have created widespread discussion and concern, particularly because of the alleged involvement of police personnel and government employees. The recovery of the cash, along with the emergence of multiple videos, has caused a stir within the police department and raised questions regarding the origin of the money and possible financial irregularities.

Police officials said the investigation is still in progress and all aspects of the case are being examined carefully. Authorities are also verifying the authenticity of the viral videos and probing whether there are additional individuals linked to the incident.

Senior officials stated that strict action would be taken if any wrongdoing or illegal financial activity is established during the investigation.
