Agartala: Dec 11: On Wednesday, the Tipra Students’ Federation (TSF) organized a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at the base of the Gandhi statue near the Circuit House in the capital. The CAA was passed in Parliament in 2019, and at that time, both TSF and the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) strongly opposed the law. Since then, December 11 has been observed as “Black Day” annually, in response to the passing of the CAA, as part of a call from NESO.

This year, like previous years, TSF members participated in the protest, carrying black flags to express their opposition to the law. The protest aimed to draw attention to their continued demand for the repeal of the CAA, which they believe discriminates against certain religious communities.

The protest was attended by several key figures, including the President of the TSF Town Committee, Manish Debbarma. Speaking about the protest, Debbarma reaffirmed the organization’s stance on the CAA and reiterated their commitment to continue opposing the law until it is revoked. The protest in the capital was part of a larger movement across the region, with the goal of raising awareness and putting pressure on the government to reconsider the controversial legislation.
