New Delhi/Agartala, July 23: Tripura Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee on Thursday joined fellow National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentarians in a protest inside the Parliament premises, condemning the demonstration led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party workers outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi.

The BJP MP described the Congress protest as a “disgraceful and deliberate provocation” and alleged that it undermined democratic values and the dignity of constitutional institutions.

In a post on social media, Bhattacharjee said while political differences are a natural part of democracy, staging a protest outside the Prime Minister’s official residence crossed the limits of acceptable political conduct. He claimed the demonstration was aimed at creating unnecessary confrontation rather than promoting constructive democratic dialogue.

“Political differences are natural, but such indecent and provocative behaviour in front of the Prime Minister’s residence is unacceptable. Such actions undermine democratic norms and constitutional values,” Bhattacharjee said.

Referring to statements made by BJP leader and MP Nitin Nabin, Bhattacharjee asserted that the NDA government is fully prepared to answer every question raised by the opposition in Parliament. He said the government is willing to debate issues concerning students, youth, the NEET examination, and other matters of national importance during the ongoing Monsoon Session.

The Rajya Sabha MP accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of avoiding discussions inside Parliament, alleging that the opposition fears its “double standards” would be exposed during open debate.

“The ruling alliance is ready for face-to-face discussions on every issue. If the opposition has the courage, it should participate in parliamentary debate instead of resorting to political theatrics outside constitutional institutions,” he said.

The protest by NDA MPs comes amid escalating political confrontation between the ruling alliance and the opposition over a range of national issues. While the Congress has intensified its protests both inside and outside Parliament, the NDA has maintained that all issues should be debated through established parliamentary procedures.

The latest exchange has added to tensions during the Monsoon Session, with both the ruling alliance and the opposition accusing each other of undermining democratic values and parliamentary traditions.
