New Delhi/Agartala, July 23: Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday urged the Union government to take immediate steps to improve the state’s road infrastructure during a high-level meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Deb highlighted the deteriorating condition of several national highways in Tripura, stating that poor road conditions have adversely affected connectivity, public convenience and economic activities across the state. He stressed the need for urgent repairs and faster implementation of ongoing highway projects to ensure safe and efficient transportation.

The BJP MP also expressed concern over delays in projects being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). He requested the Union Minister to direct the concerned agencies to expedite construction work and complete pending projects within the stipulated timeframe.

Apart from road infrastructure, Deb discussed the proposed ropeway projects in Tripura, describing them as crucial for promoting tourism and improving transportation in the state’s hilly regions. He said the ropeway initiatives would provide an alternative mode of transport while boosting tourism and local economic development.

Responding to the concerns, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reportedly instructed the NHIDCL Managing Director to take immediate measures for repairing damaged stretches of national highways and strengthening routine maintenance. He also directed officials to accelerate the execution of ongoing infrastructure projects and assured that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways would closely monitor their progress.

Expressing gratitude after the meeting, Deb thanked Gadkari for his prompt response and constructive approach towards Tripura’s infrastructure concerns. He said the Union Minister’s intervention demonstrates the Centre’s commitment to strengthening connectivity and supporting the state’s development.

“This is a positive step that will directly benefit the people of Tripura by improving road connectivity and creating better infrastructure for economic growth and public convenience,” Deb said.

The meeting is expected to provide renewed momentum to highway development projects in the state. Improved road infrastructure and the proposed ropeway projects are likely to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, boost tourism and strengthen overall economic development in Tripura. Attention will now focus on the timely execution of the Centre’s directives and the progress of NHIDCL projects in the coming months.
