Agartala: Feb 10: Bela Saha Smriti Vidya Mandir, a primary school located in a remote corner of the Sundarbans, opened its doors on Monday, 3rd January. This new initiative, a CSR project by Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, is named in honor of Bela Saha, a woman who was deeply committed to education and inspired many with her belief in the power of knowledge. Her legacy continues to motivate countless individuals whose lives she touched.

The inauguration of the school was timed with Saraswati Puja, a celebration dedicated to the Goddess of Learning. The ceremony began with a ‘pushpanjali’ (floral offering) to seek blessings for the school’s new beginning. The event also included the release of pigeons and the unfurling of the school flag.

Swami Suparnananda Ji Maharaj, Secretary of the Institute of Culture at the Ramakrishna Mission, Kolkata, graced the occasion as the chief inaugurator. Mr. M.L. Lohia, Chairman of Jupiter Wagons Ltd and President of East Bengal Club, attended as the Chief Guest. Guests of honor included Shri Debabrata Sarkar from East Bengal Club, Dr. Sujit Roy, former head of Goenka College of Commerce, Yogi Biswa of Biswa Yoga, and Dr. Dipankar Mondal, Secretary of the Sundarban Binodpur Shibom Society.

Mr. Lohia expressed his honor in supporting the Saha family’s initiative, emphasizing his commitment to providing midday meals for all 350 students throughout the year. Swami Suparnananda Ji praised the Saha family’s long-standing dedication to social causes and blessed the school’s adoption.

Rupak Saha, the son of Bela Saha and Director of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, spoke about his mother’s academic achievements and her lifelong support for meritorious students. His sister, Sucharita Roy, added that the family is emotionally attached to the school and is determined to ensure that it lives up to her legacy.
