Agartala: Feb 16: BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra addressed the media in Tumkur, providing insights on several key issues facing the party and the state government. Regarding the post of state president, Vijayendra stated that the decision will be made within the next 20 days. He explained that the central leadership is currently working on appointing district presidents, and once that process is complete, the party will finalize the state president’s appointment. Central high-ranking officials are expected to visit the state soon to consult with MLAs and make a final decision.

On the disciplinary notice served to BJP leader Yatnal by the central committee, Vijayendra chose not to comment further, emphasizing that the party’s central leadership is monitoring the situation. When asked about Rajanna’s criticism regarding the Yatnal issue, Vijayendra dismissed Rajanna’s comments, asserting that Rajanna is a member of the Congress party and his opinions are irrelevant to the BJP.

Turning to the state government’s decision to close several newly established universities, Vijayendra expressed strong opposition, calling the move “unfortunate.” He criticized the Congress government for not providing the necessary funding to these universities, which had been set up under the previous BJP government. According to Vijayendra, closing these universities would harm poor students who rely on them for education. He lamented the lack of grants to support these institutions, which could otherwise serve as a valuable resource for students.

Vijayendra also expressed concern about rising costs in the state, including increased petrol prices and stamp duties, adding that these measures, coupled with the closure of universities, show the government’s failure to support the education sector. He urged the state government to reconsider its decision, as it would be detrimental to the future of students and the state’s growth.
