Panisagar, July 19: In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, police in North Tripura’s Panisagar subdivision seized nearly 10,000 Yaba tablets and arrested one individual on Friday afternoon during a high-alert operation.

The seizure took place at the Poutakhali traffic checkpoint under Panisagar Police Station jurisdiction. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement personnel intercepted a truck (bearing registration number NL01AE-8996) transporting eggs from Guwahati around 12 PM. The vehicle raised suspicion during preliminary checks, prompting officers to notify the Panisagar Police Station and Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office.

A joint search was conducted in the presence of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Soumya Debbarma and a DC officer. Upon detailed inspection, authorities discovered a hidden packet inside the truck containing approximately 10,000 Yaba tablets—a powerful combination of methamphetamine and caffeine commonly trafficked across borders.

One individual, identified as Milan Sinha, a resident of Kumarghat in Unakoti district, was taken into custody on the spot. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police officials have launched an in-depth investigation to trace the broader network involved in the illegal trafficking. They suspect the consignment may be part of a larger cross-border smuggling operation.

In response to the bust, security and surveillance have been tightened across major checkpoints and vulnerable entry routes in the region. Authorities are stepping up vigilance to curb the flow of narcotics into Tripura, which has become a key transit point for drug routes originating from neighboring states and countries.

This operation marks a crucial step in Tripura Police’s ongoing efforts to combat the rising menace of drug trafficking in the state.
