Sonamura, August 6: A wave of shock and grief swept through the Kalamkhet area of Sonamura subdivision following the brutal dacoity that claimed the life of 80-year-old Shanti Ranjan Das. Senior political leaders, including former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik and Dhanpur MLA Bindu Debnath, visited the bereaved family on Wednesday to offer condolences and demand swift justice.

Speaking to the media after her visit, Pratima Bhowmik strongly condemned the incident, calling it “deeply shameful and unacceptable in a civil society.” She urged the administration to act decisively by arresting the culprits at the earliest and ensuring that justice is served without delay. “The government and the people stand firmly with the administration in this fight for justice,” she said.

Highlighting growing concerns over public safety, Bhowmik stated, “If citizens are not safe in their own homes, the police administration must introspect and identify the lapses that led to such a horrifying incident.” Her comments resonated with the local residents, who have been left shaken by the violent crime.

The attack not only took the life of the elderly man but also left his wife, Namita Das, critically injured. She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Police have detained three individuals in connection with the dacoity and assured that the investigation is progressing swiftly. However, locals have intensified their demand for stronger policing and robust community safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for accountability and heightened security, particularly in remote and vulnerable areas. Authorities have promised a thorough probe and assured the public that justice will be delivered.
