Santirbazar, February 21: Doctors from Santirbazar District Hospital are set to participate in the prestigious MLA Cup cricket tournament at Kanchan Nagar on February 23 at 9:30 a.m., combining sportsmanship with a strong message of public health awareness.
The medical team, led by Dr. Pallab Kar and managed by Dr. Ajay Pal, is stepping onto the cricket field with a purpose that goes beyond competition. While known for their dedicated service to patients, the doctors aim to use the sporting platform to promote key national health initiatives, including the Government of India’s TB Mukt Bharat campaign and the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The initiative has drawn inspiration from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jyotirmoy Das and Government Doctors’ Association executive member Dr. Debjyoti Majumdar, who encouraged healthcare professionals to lead by example in promoting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. By participating in the tournament, the doctors intend to highlight the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being and preventive healthcare—values that are essential not only for the general public but also for medical professionals.
One of the participating doctors remarked that the effort is not merely about cricket but about sending a broader message of wellness, awareness and social responsibility. Through their presence at the MLA Cup, the team hopes to inspire the community to adopt healthier habits and stay informed about government health programmes aimed at ensuring accessible and affordable care.
The unique initiative reflects how healthcare providers can extend their role beyond hospital walls, engaging with the community through sports while reinforcing the message of a healthier and TB-free India.
