Tripura’s flagship honey brand, Tripura Nectar, took another step towards strengthening rural self-reliance with the distribution of new bee boxes to members of the Madhumati Producer Group under Pecharthal Block on Friday.
The initiative, implemented under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), aims to increase honey production, strengthen women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) and build a sustainable supply chain to meet the growing demand for Tripura Nectar products.
The distribution programme was held at Pecharthal and attended by senior officials, including TRLM Chief Executive Officer Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, who personally handed over the bee boxes to the SHG members.
Sajal Chakma, Chairman of the Block Advisory Committee (BAC), Pecharthal, and Nabarun Chakraborty, Block Development Officer (BDO), Pecharthal, were also present. Representatives from the District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) and block-level TRLM teams attended the programme.
Officials said the additional bee boxes would enable members of the Madhumati Producer Group to expand beekeeping activities and increase honey production. The move is expected to improve the earning potential of SHG members while strengthening the availability of raw honey for Tripura Nectar.
The initiative also seeks to connect rural producers with organised markets and encourage enterprise development among women. By providing resources, training and institutional support, TRLM is working to create livelihood opportunities based on market-oriented production and value addition.
Tripura Nectar has increasingly emerged as a symbol of women-led entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the state. Officials said strengthening the network of SHG producers would help the brand expand its market presence while ensuring that rural communities directly benefit from the growing demand for locally produced honey.
The programme reflects TRLM’s broader focus on livelihood diversification and sustainable rural enterprise development. Through beekeeping and other income-generating activities, the mission aims to help rural households establish more stable sources of income.
Officials expressed appreciation to Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and the Secretary of the Rural Development Department for their continued encouragement and guidance. They said the support has helped motivate the TRLM team and SHG members to pursue greater milestones in rural entrepreneurship.
The latest initiative is expected to give further momentum to Tripura Nectar’s production network and strengthen women’s participation in the state’s growing rural economy.
