Agartala, April 29: The Tripura Biodiversity Board, in collaboration with Everain Global Services, conducted a carbon-neutral Induction Workshop on the State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SBSAP) at the TFDPC Conference Hall, Agartala. The workshop aimed to align Tripura’s biodiversity vision with India’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

Chaired by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, the event brought together representatives from government departments, academia, and development organizations. Debbarma stressed the need for a Tripura-centric action plan that reflects the state’s unique ecological and socio-cultural context. He identified urbanization and deforestation as major threats and advocated integrating biodiversity into infrastructure and urban planning.

Rabindra Kumar Samal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, and Dr. K. Sasikumar, Secretary of Science, Technology and Environment, highlighted the importance of stakeholder engagement and inter-departmental coordination in the SBSAP development process.

Dr. Atul Kumar Gupta, Project Lead and former PCCF, Tripura, addressed key biodiversity concerns—habitat loss, invasive species, climate change, and the integration of traditional knowledge. He outlined clear roles for departments in upcoming district-level consultations aimed at localizing the strategy.

An interactive session followed, encouraging stakeholders to share insights and propose actionable conservation strategies. The workshop concluded with a pledge for biodiversity conservation and sustainability.

The event maintained a low plastic footprint and collected travel data to assess Scope 3 emissions, reinforcing its carbon-neutral commitment.
