Quetta, Aug 23 — Prominent Baloch human rights defender Mir Yar Baloch has accused Pakistani forces of the extrajudicial killing of four Baloch civilians in a staged encounter in Balochistan’s Basima area.

Citing verified local sources, Mir alleged that the victims, residents of Gidar in Surab district, were earlier held in illegal custody by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) before being killed in what he termed a “fabricated encounter.” He claimed the incident reflects a broader pattern of state-sponsored violence targeting the Baloch population.

“These civilians were first abducted, illegally detained, and then executed in cold blood. Such actions are not isolated—they are part of a systematic campaign,” Mir stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He further claimed that over 40,000 Baloch people have been forcibly disappeared by Pakistan’s security forces and held in secret detention centres, with many reportedly executed without trial. “These are not just human rights violations—they constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law,” he said.

Mir Yar Baloch condemned what he described as the “genocidal policies” of the Pakistani state in Balochistan, including enforced disappearances, illegal detentions, and targeted killings. He urged the international community, including the United Nations and global human rights organisations, to urgently intervene.

“The silence of the global community in the face of these atrocities is unacceptable. Pakistan must be held accountable,” he said.

He also called for an immediate end to what he termed Pakistan’s “illegal occupation” of Balochistan, demanding a timeframe for the withdrawal of its forces from the region’s land, sea, and air spaces.

Human rights groups have long documented abuses in Balochistan, including home raids, arbitrary arrests, torture, and a “kill and dump” policy used against dissidents and civilians alike.
