Agartala, May 14: West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb recently visited the Sumitra Woodcraft Factory in Uttar Pradesh, a unit that manufactures high-quality mango wood furniture, entirely exported to the United States. The factory operates under the ‘Make in India’ vision spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Impressed by the factory’s operations and export success, Deb expressed keen interest in replicating a similar industrial model in Tripura, leveraging the state’s rich natural resources such as rubber wood and bamboo.

“Tripura has immense potential to develop export-oriented industries using locally available materials,” Deb stated. He emphasized that establishing such industries could boost employment, create economic opportunities for rural communities, and enhance the global visibility of Tripura’s indigenous resources.

According to Deb, the owners of Sumitra Woodcraft showed a strong interest in exploring industrial prospects in Tripura. Discussions were held about the possibility of setting up similar manufacturing units in the state, which could significantly strengthen the region’s industrial base and contribute to India’s growing furniture export market.

Following his visit, Deb took to social media to highlight the initiative, saying, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Make in India vision, Sumitra Woodcraft in UP is producing diverse wooden furniture and exporting 100% to the USA. I discussed Tripura’s potential with them, especially using rubber wood and bamboo, and they are willing to explore setting up units here.”

Deb’s push for such development aligns with the broader goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and could mark a new phase in Tripura’s industrial and export journey.
