New Delhi, Sept 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed former Tripura Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb as the party’s election in-charge for West Bengal, ahead of the crucial state polls. This decision, announced by the BJP’s central leadership, underscores the party’s focus on strengthening its organizational base and electoral strategy in the politically significant state.

Deb, who led the BJP to its first-ever government in Tripura in 2018, is known for his grassroots connect and dynamic leadership. As a prominent leader from the Northeast, his new role is seen as an effort to bridge regional strategies with national ambitions. Party sources said Deb’s experience in organizational matters and his proven ability to mobilize cadres at the booth level played a key role in his selection.

In his initial reaction, Deb expressed gratitude to the party’s senior leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President J.P. Nadda, for entrusting him with the responsibility. He vowed to work tirelessly with the state leadership, karyakartas, and allies to ensure the BJP’s strong performance in Bengal.

Political observers view his appointment as part of BJP’s larger strategy to energize the party base in West Bengal, where it emerged as the main opposition in the 2021 Assembly elections. With the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee still dominating state politics, the BJP is gearing up for an intense contest.

By handing over the reins of Bengal poll management to Biplab Kumar Deb, the BJP hopes to infuse fresh energy and sharpen its campaign machinery. His appointment signals the party’s determination to challenge the ruling TMC and consolidate its position as a formidable political force in West Bengal.
