Agartala, June 21: The Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day with a unique and symbolic programme on the historic Indo-Bangla Maitri Bridge at Sabroom in South Tripura on Sunday. The event highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and international harmony.

The programme was organised by the ‘F’ Company of the 114 Battalion BSF, where jawans enthusiastically participated in a mass yoga session. Against the scenic backdrop of the international border and the iconic Maitri Bridge connecting India and Bangladesh, BSF personnel performed various yoga asanas and pranayama exercises, demonstrating their commitment to health, discipline and holistic wellness.

The observance formed part of the nationwide celebrations of International Yoga Day, which is marked every year on June 21 to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles. The participation of BSF personnel reflected the growing recognition of yoga as an essential tool for maintaining physical endurance, mental resilience and emotional balance.

Speaking to the media after the programme, Deputy Commandant R.L. Meena emphasized the significance of yoga in the lives of security personnel. He said that regular yoga practice helps jawans maintain fitness, concentration and mental strength while carrying out demanding duties under challenging conditions along the international border.

“Yoga plays a vital role in ensuring both physical and mental well-being. It enhances stamina, reduces stress and enables personnel to remain focused while performing their responsibilities,” Meena said.

He also highlighted the symbolic importance of organising the event on the Indo-Bangla Maitri Bridge, describing it as a landmark representing friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh. According to him, the programme conveyed a dual message of promoting healthy living and strengthening the spirit of peace, goodwill and international harmony.

The celebration on the bridge added a distinctive dimension to this year’s Yoga Day observance, drawing attention to the role of yoga in fostering unity and wellness beyond geographical boundaries. The event also showcased the BSF’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle among its personnel while upholding values of discipline, dedication and service.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to continue practising yoga regularly and encourage others to embrace its benefits for a healthier and more balanced life.
