Agartala: Mar 26: The CPI(M) has announced its decision to boycott the remaining days of the ongoing budget session in the Tripura Assembly. Opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury, during a press conference, expressed concerns over the functioning of the assembly, alleging that the voices of the opposition are being suppressed. He criticized Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen, claiming that the Speaker’s actions have undermined the democratic process.

Choudhury highlighted that, traditionally, budget discussions in the assembly allowed the opposition to address government shortcomings and offer suggestions. However, he alleged that this practice has been compromised. During the budget discussions on March 24, Choudhury accused certain members of the government of misusing public funds and engaging in unethical practices. He also filed a breach of privilege notice against Parliamentary Minister Ratan Lal Nath, citing derogatory remarks made during the session. The Speaker, however, accepted a breach of privilege notice submitted by the Parliamentary Minister instead, leading to further dissatisfaction among the opposition.

The CPI(M) leader described the current session as a challenging chapter in the assembly’s history and reiterated the party’s commitment to advocating for public interests despite the ongoing disputes.
