Agartala: April 07: Tensions along the India-Bangladesh border have heightened following the recovery of a suspected drone near Ballamukha in South Tripura’s Belonia subdivision. The drone was found just 300 meters from the international barbed-wire fence, sparking concerns over a potential national security breach.

The incident unfolded early Monday morning when villagers first spotted the unmanned aerial vehicle in a paddy field, triggering widespread panic. Many residents, unfamiliar with such technology, feared the object could pose a threat. One villager, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared their fear, saying, “It looked like a drone, and we were scared it could be dangerous.”

The Tripura Police responded swiftly, dispatching a team to the scene within minutes. The area was cordoned off, and the drone was recovered and sent for forensic analysis. A senior police official confirmed that while the drone’s origin remains unclear, initial assessments suggest it may have crossed from Bangladesh into Indian airspace.

Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation to determine the drone’s purpose and its potential link to cross-border activities. There is speculation that it could be connected to smuggling or espionage operations. In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been alerted and is collaborating with local police to trace the drone’s flight path and confirm whether it entered Indian territory.

This incident raises serious concerns about the growing use of drones for illicit activities along international borders. It also underscores the need for heightened vigilance and enhanced security measures to safeguard national sovereignty and prevent cross-border threats.
