Agartala, Dec 16: The state level Khelo Tripura Para Games to begin from Devmber 18 next here at Agartala Swami Vivekananda Ground, said the state sports and youth affairs minister Tinku Roy on Monday.
Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat on Monday, the minister said that the ‘Khelo Tripura Para Games-2024’ is a part of Divyangjan Day, 2024. Competitors from all districts of the state will participate in this Para Games organized jointly by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports to encourage the disabled to play sports, he told reporters.
In the press conference, the Sports Minister said that around 343 Divyang athletes from eight districts of the state will participate in the Khelo Tripura Para Games. The Games are planned to host 14 events, he said.
He further informed that 50 exhibition stalls will be opened at Swami Vivekananda Ground on the occasion of Khelo Tripura Para Games to display information about the developmental work of various departments of the government. Various mobility equipment including wheel chairs will be provided among the disabled through the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, he said, adding that a medical camp will also be opened there to provide medical services to the disabled.
The Department of Social Welfare and Social Education has taken a special initiative to provide social allowance to the disabled persons (60 percent and above) who have not yet received social allowance despite their eligibility.
The sports minister said that 2,779 new people will be given such allowance. He said that at the event of Khelo Tripura Para Games, Rs 24000 will be given to five meritorious Divyangjan students in the secondary examination and Rs 54000 to five meritorious Divyangjan students in the higher secondary examination. Besides, Divyangjans will be given UDID card at the event, which will have a unique number, through which the Divyangjan person can avail the benefits provided for Divyangjans anywhere in India, he added. *
