Agartala: Jan 21: A remarkable archaeological discovery has been made in the Bhuiyapara area of Kailashahar, Tripura. Laborers unearthed a large stone statue, believed to be several hundred years old, while working on a village road project. The statue was discovered in the four-number ward of Bhuiyapara, under Deorachhara ADC village of Gournagar block .
News of the discovery spread quickly on social media, drawing a large crowd to the site. Local administration officials, including Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Officer Pradeep Sarkar and Archaeological Survey of India’s Unkoti district conservation assistant Abhishek Kumar, visited the site to assess the discovery.
Villagers have begun worshiping the statue, lighting incense sticks and candles, with some believing it to be a statue of Brahma, others Ganesha, and some Shiva. Sub-Divisional Officer Pradeep Sarkar suggested that the discovered statue could be similar to the largest stone Shiva lingam in Asia, located in the nearby Shiva Bari village.
The statue has been transported to the Unkoti district magistrate’s office for further examination and preservation. This discovery has generated significant interest and excitement, highlighting the rich cultural and historical heritage of Tripura.
