Tension prevailed in Khadimpara under East Fulbari Panchayat of the Churaibari police station area after a disturbing incident involving an alleged attempt to molest and assault a woman in broad daylight. The incident triggered strong reactions from local residents, who condemned the act and demanded strict action against the accused.
According to reports, the accused has been identified as Shukur Ali (30), son of Komar Uddin and a resident of the same locality. He allegedly had been troubling his neighbour, a mother of three children, for some time by making repeated indecent proposals. Locals said the woman had consistently rejected his advances and tried to avoid confrontation.
On the day of the incident, Ali allegedly confronted the woman again and attempted to molest her when she resisted his behaviour. When the woman raised an alarm and tried to defend herself, the accused reportedly attacked her with a stick and physically assaulted her, leaving her injured.
Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot, prompting the accused to flee the area. The injured woman later approached Churaibari police station and lodged a written complaint detailing the incident.
Police responded promptly and launched a search operation. The accused was soon traced and taken into custody. Officials confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation into the matter is underway.
Residents of the area expressed anger over the incident, stating that this was not the first time Ali had been accused of harassing women in the neighbourhood. According to locals, his behaviour had created discomfort and concern among several families in the area.
The incident has sparked strong condemnation from community members, who have called for strict legal action against the accused to ensure justice for the victim. Locals also stressed the need for stronger measures to ensure the safety and dignity of women in the community.
