Agartala, May 29: In a compassionate humanitarian gesture, Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury has extended financial assistance to the family of a critically ill student from South Singichhara under the 25-Khowai constituency, offering support for his ongoing kidney treatment.
The beneficiary, 17-year-old Abhijit Sarkar, son of auto driver Anuranjan Sarkar, has been battling a severe kidney ailment and is currently undergoing dialysis. According to family members, doctors have advised advanced treatment outside the state, but mounting medical expenses and financial hardship had left the family struggling to continue treatment.
With limited resources and growing uncertainty, the family approached MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury at his residence seeking help. Moved by the condition of the young student and the family’s difficulties, the MLA handed over a cheque of Rs 75,000 from his personal honorarium to support the treatment expenses.
Speaking on the occasion, Das Choudhury said public representatives have a moral responsibility to stand beside people during times of crisis and hardship.
“As public representatives, it is our moral and human duty to help people in distress. Abhijit is a bright and meritorious science student, and I sincerely pray for his speedy recovery so that he can return to a normal life and continue his studies,” the MLA said.
He further assured the family that he would continue to extend all possible support in the future if required. The MLA also remarked that true public service lies not only in participating in celebrations but in standing with people during their most difficult moments.
The gesture has received widespread appreciation from local residents and community members, many of whom described it as an example of empathy and responsible leadership. Locals noted that the MLA’s willingness to assist a family outside his immediate constituency reflects a broader commitment to humanitarian values beyond political boundaries.
Residents and well-wishers also expressed hope for Abhijit’s recovery and praised the initiative as an act that strengthens trust and emotional connection between public representatives and the community.
The family members thanked the MLA for his timely support and said the assistance would help them continue the treatment process with renewed hope.
