Agartala, Oct 26 : Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Monday chaired a meeting of the State Advisory Board here to discuss minimum wage revision, labour welfare and effective implementation of labour laws, officials said.

The meeting, held at the Labour Directorate office on Office Lane, focused on safeguarding workers' rights, strengthening social security measures and improving the socio-economic conditions of the state's workforce.

MLA Abhishek Debroy, members of the State Advisory Board and senior officials of the Labour Department attended the meeting.

The deliberations centred on recommendations to be submitted to the state government regarding the fixation and revision of minimum wages, workers' entitlements and the implementation of provisions under existing labour laws and labour codes.

Addressing the meeting, Roy highlighted the board's role in advising the government on labour-related matters, particularly wage policies and workers' welfare.

He stressed that protecting the dignity, rights and welfare of workers remained a priority and called for coordinated efforts to improve the living standards of labourers engaged in different sectors.

The minister also underscored the need to ensure that government policies and welfare schemes effectively reached their intended beneficiaries, officials said.

Participants discussed measures to create a fair and balanced working environment, expand social security coverage and strengthen the enforcement of labour laws to protect workers' interests.

Debroy emphasised the importance of periodic revision of minimum wages and safeguarding the legitimate rights of workers. He also highlighted the need for effective implementation of labour codes and welfare initiatives to improve the overall condition of the working population.

The meeting provided a platform for board members and government representatives to review key labour-related concerns and discuss possible measures to address them.

Officials said the recommendations emerging from the deliberations would help the state government formulate future policies concerning wage revision, labour welfare and workers' rights.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening labour administration and ensuring that statutory protections and welfare benefits reached workers across different sectors.

The board's recommendations are expected to inform the government's approach to improving working conditions and enhancing protections for the state's labour force, they added.
