Agartala, Oct 26 :The Tripura government has stepped up monitoring of the distribution of free sugar, flour and suji among ration card holders during October and November, following a recent Cabinet decision to provide the essential food items to eligible beneficiaries.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday chaired a high-level virtual meeting to review the implementation of the welfare initiative and assess whether the commodities were reaching beneficiaries across the state.

The meeting was held at the minister's official residence and attended by the Director of the Food Department, senior departmental officials and Sub-Divisional Magistrates from various subdivisions through virtual mode.

During the review, officials discussed the progress of distribution, implementation-related challenges and measures required to ensure the timely delivery of the food items to eligible ration card holders.

The minister stressed the need for effective coordination among officials at different levels to ensure that beneficiaries receive their entitled commodities without inconvenience.

Particular emphasis was laid on maintaining transparency and accountability in the distribution process, while authorities were asked to closely monitor the implementation of the scheme in their respective areas.

Addressing the officials, Chowdhury said the government's primary objective was to ensure that the benefits of every people-centric decision reached the intended beneficiaries.

He directed the concerned authorities to maintain strict supervision of the distribution process and take all necessary steps to address bottlenecks that could affect the timely delivery of the commodities.

The meeting also reviewed the distribution arrangements across different subdivisions, with officials discussing the need for coordinated efforts to ensure that the scheme was implemented uniformly throughout the state.

The free distribution programme is scheduled to cover October and November, in accordance with the recent Cabinet decision.

The initiative is aimed at providing additional support to ration card holders during the festive season by making essential food commodities available without cost.

The government has emphasised the importance of ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries receive the items within the stipulated period.

The review meeting forms part of the state's efforts to monitor the implementation of the welfare measure and address any difficulties arising during distribution.
