Agartala, September 23: A group of Class IX students from PM SHRI South Jumerdhepa High School in Sepahijala district gained practical exposure to agriculture through an industrial visit organised under Tripura’s National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF)-based vocational education programme.
The visit, conducted as part of the Agriculture Trade, gave students an opportunity to observe farming-related activities and workplace practices and understand the practical application of concepts covered in their coursework.
According to a press note, the initiative was intended to acquaint students with agriculture as a skill-based and employment-oriented sector while providing them with an insight into potential career opportunities.
Valeur Fabtex Pvt. Ltd., the Vocational Training Provider (VTP) engaged with the school, facilitated the programme. The school's Vocational Trainer accompanied the students during the visit. The initiative was conducted under the leadership of Ikram Hossen, State Coordinator of the organisation, in coordination with the school and the School Education Department.
The industrial visit is part of the broader Vocationalisation of School Education programme under NSQF, which seeks to complement academic learning with vocational skills, practical training and exposure to industry and employment avenues.
For 2025-26, the Project Approval Board (PAB) of Samagra Shiksha and the PM SHRI Scheme under the Ministry of Education approved NSQF-compliant vocational education in seven sectors for 191 selected government high and higher secondary schools in Tripura.
The sectors include IT–ITeS, Electronics, Agriculture, Organised Retail, Power, Automotive and Telecom.
Under the programme, 138 schools are introducing a first vocational sector, while 53 schools that already have vocational education will add a second sector.
The initiative is being implemented by the School Education Department, Government of Tripura, through Samagra Shiksha and the PM SHRI Scheme with support from the designated VTP.
The Agriculture Trade visit provided students with an opportunity to experience practical learning outside the classroom and strengthen their understanding of agriculture-related vocational concepts.
The press note said such exposure can contribute to developing practical knowledge, workplace awareness, communication and problem-solving skills, while helping students identify possible career paths in agriculture.
The initiative follows the “Learning by Doing” model and is aimed at fostering practical skills, confidence and career awareness among students.
