Agartala: Mar 17: Cannabis Seized and Bangladeshi Citizen Detained at Agartala Railway Station

In a routine police check at Agartala Railway Station yesterday, authorities discovered 15.5 kilograms of dry cannabis hidden in an abandoned pink trolley bag. The cannabis was packed into 16 separate packets and had an estimated market value of ₹2,32,500. After following all necessary legal procedures, the narcotics were seized by the authorities. The Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) has launched an investigation to trace the owner of the illegal drugs and determine the source of the shipment.

In a related operation on the same day, Mohammad Liton, a 47-year-old Bangladeshi citizen from Comilla district, was detained at the railway station. Liton reportedly intended to travel to Mumbai, though the reasons for his travel remain under investigation. Authorities are working to determine whether there is any connection between Liton and the cannabis found earlier in the day.

The operation was a coordinated effort between several law enforcement agencies, including the Agartala GRP, Border Security Force (BSF), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the intelligence department. This joint operation reflects ongoing efforts to tackle cross-border smuggling and criminal activities within the region.

A formal case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station in connection with the seizure of the drugs and the detention of the Bangladeshi national. Mohammad Liton was presented in court today, and investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of his involvement in this incident and potential links to broader criminal networks.

The operation highlights the vigilance of local authorities in curbing illegal activities and ensuring the safety and security of transportation hubs in the region.
