Agartala: Nov 14: November 14 marks the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The Pradesh Congress celebrated the day with due respect and solemnity. Present at the event were Manoj Dutta, the state in-charge of the Jawahar Bal Manch from Delhi, Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, and other prominent leaders.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag by former Congress President Piyush Kanti Biswas and the party flag by the current Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha in front of the Congress Bhavan. The leaders and party workers then paid their respects by offering floral tributes at the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru in front of the Congress office. Later, they visited Gandhi Ghat and paid homage at the Martyrs’ Memorial by placing floral offerings.
President Ashish Kumar Saha stated that the Pradesh Congress had planned several programs to commemorate the day, emphasizing its importance not only as Nehru’s birth anniversary but also as Children’s Day. Various activities, including dance and music performances by children, were organized at the Student Health Home as part of the celebrations.
Saha also expressed concern over the increasing vulnerability of children in the country, highlighting that they are not safe from crimes such as rape, murder, and abuse. The Congress has repeatedly urged the government to ensure the safety of children in the state, but there has been little improvement. He criticized the current government for its indifference toward child protection and called for urgent action.
Further, Saha alleged that the present government is attempting to erase the history of the country, and in response, the Congress has taken the initiative to form a unit dedicated to children. This unit will focus on preserving India’s history, culture, and heritage, ensuring that future generations understand and appreciate their roots.
