Indore, June 11 – In a dramatic turn in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, the family of accused Sonam Raghuvanshi has publicly disowned her and demanded the death penalty if she is found guilty. The call comes after the Meghalaya Police concluded that Sonam orchestrated the brutal murder of her husband during their honeymoon.
Sonam’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, visited Raja’s parents in Indore on Wednesday and extended an apology for his sister’s alleged involvement. Speaking to reporters, Govind said, “We will boycott her completely. No one from the family will visit her or assist in any legal proceedings. If found guilty, we want her to get the death penalty.”
Govind denied knowing about Sonam’s relationship with co-accused Raj Kushwaha, saying he learned about it through the media. He described Raj as merely an employee in the family’s business and claimed Sonam used to tie a rakhi to him. Govind also identified another suspect, Jitendra Raghuvanshi, as his cousin and an employee in their family enterprise.
Raj Kushwaha worked as an accountant at a furniture sheet unit owned by Sonam’s family. Police investigations reveal that he had been in a relationship with Sonam for several months.
Meanwhile, a joint team from Meghalaya and Indore Police searched the residence of accused Vishal Chauhan. Clothes worn by Chauhan during the crime were recovered and will be sent for forensic examination to detect bloodstains, according to ACP Poonamchandra Yadav.
Indore’s Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia confirmed that the four accused—Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—have been taken into transit custody. A 12-member Meghalaya Police team has returned to Shillong with the accused for further investigation.
