Agartala, November 8:
A sudden teacher transfer order has sparked widespread protests at Thapidayal English Medium Higher Secondary School under Teliamura police station in the 29-Krishnapur Assembly Constituency. With the institution already struggling due to acute staff shortages, the transfer of one of its few experienced teachers has triggered outrage among students, parents, and local residents.

Currently, only three teachers are responsible for educating 86 students across multiple classes, posing a serious challenge to maintaining academic standards. The transfer order, issued earlier this week, has further deepened concerns about the school’s ability to function effectively.

On Saturday morning, angry students and guardians locked the school gates and staged a road blockade on the Teliamura–Ghilatali route, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill for several hours. The protesters demanded an immediate reversal of the transfer order and called for urgent government intervention to resolve the staff crisis.

Police personnel from Teliamura station reached the spot and engaged in discussions with the demonstrators. After assurance that their grievances would be conveyed to higher authorities, the blockade was eventually lifted, and normal traffic resumed.

Local residents and parents voiced frustration over the state of the education system in the area, saying that the decision to transfer teachers from an already understaffed school was unjustified. They warned that if the transfer is not withdrawn, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.

“The authorities must retain existing teachers and appoint more staff instead of creating further disruption,” said one guardian, reflecting the community’s growing anxiety over the situation.

The protest has once again highlighted the urgent need for equitable teacher distribution and better administrative planning to ensure quality education in rural and semi-urban schools across Tripura.
