Agartala, June 6: Tripura’s Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Ratanlal Nath, on Friday assured that the state government will ensure the timely distribution of seeds to farmers ahead of the cultivation season. Speaking at the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan programme at Phultali village under Kamalasagar assembly constituency in Sepahijala district, the minister also instructed officials to swiftly resolve any logistical challenges that may arise.

“The government is fully committed to supporting farmers—not only in agriculture but also in fisheries, poultry, floriculture, and horticulture,” Nath stated, emphasizing the multi-dimensional approach being taken to uplift the agricultural sector.

The event, which marked the eighth day of the flagship campaign, saw the participation of agricultural scientists, officials from various departments, and a large number of farmers. Minister Nath engaged in an open dialogue with farmers, underlining the importance of collective efforts in building a developed and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.

He highlighted the free soil testing services being provided by the government to improve crop yield and promote sustainable farming practices. Citing success stories, Nath said many educated youth in Tripura are now taking up agriculture as a profession, earning lakhs of rupees with the help of government schemes and support.

“This proves that agriculture today is not just a tradition, but a profitable and sustainable profession,” he added.

In a personal gesture, Nath announced that a power tiller would be provided to local farmer Amiya Bala Das, reinforcing the government’s hands-on approach to farmer welfare.

Drawing a moving comparison, the minister said, “Farmers and jawans never go on strike. One feeds the nation, the other defends it. Both are invaluable. I urge all farmers—do not leave your land fallow. Use it. Cultivate it. The government stands with you.”
