Agartala: Feb 25: The Tripura BJP has voiced strong objections against the CPI(M)’s criticism of the central government’s financial aid to the flood-affected state. BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty held a press conference to express their concerns, emphasizing that the devastating flood in Tripura last August was the worst in the state’s history, affecting over two-thirds of the population.

Chakraborty highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah provided continuous support to the people of Tripura, offering financial assistance in various forms. However, he noted that CPI(M) compared this aid to begging, which he described as highly objectionable.

The BJP spokesperson alleged that CPI(M)’s disparaging remarks were a result of the state’s recovery process, where people were gradually returning to normalcy. He suggested that CPI(M) could not tolerate this, as during their tenure in the Left Front government, their primary aim was to create scarcity and manipulate people into dependence.

Chakraborty also acknowledged the state government’s recent decision to fill 315 vacant positions in the cabinet and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for this. He mentioned that over 22,000 vacancies had been filled since the BJP came to power in Tripura, with plans to fill an additional 30,000 vacancies.

This protest arises amidst a history of tensions between the BJP and CPI(M) in Tripura. Recently, the Election Commission of India warned a BJP candidate for violating the model code of conduct by branding CPI(M) a “party of murderers.”
