The Tripura government has initiated plans to transform the Jute Mill and adjoining areas at Hapania into a modern infrastructure zone equipped with advanced facilities, in a move aimed at strengthening urban development and creating new opportunities for economic growth in the state. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy following an inspection visit to the proposed project site on Thursday.

Sharing details of the initiative through a social media post, the Finance Minister stated that the government is working with a fresh vision to redevelop the Jute Mill region through planned infrastructure expansion and modernization. The proposed project is expected to significantly enhance urban amenities while also opening new avenues for investment, employment generation and socio-economic development.

According to the minister, the redevelopment plan is being designed with a balanced and people-centric approach. He emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting the interests and future security of employees associated with the Jute Mill. The welfare of workers, he said, is being given equal importance alongside the modernization process.

Pranajit Singha Roy noted that authorities are carefully assessing long-term support mechanisms and welfare measures to ensure that workers and their families are not adversely affected during the redevelopment process. He stressed that development initiatives should move forward while safeguarding the concerns of those connected with the existing establishment.

The proposed project is expected to include modern infrastructure facilities designed to support large-scale public activities and gatherings. Preliminary plans indicate provisions for extensive seating capacity, organized public spaces and adequate parking facilities to manage visitor movement efficiently.

The minister expressed confidence that redevelopment of the Jute Mill area would emerge as an important milestone in Tripura’s urban transformation efforts. He said the initiative has the potential to strengthen the state’s infrastructure network, attract economic activity and create employment opportunities for local residents.

During the visit, the Finance Minister, accompanied by senior officials, also inspected the proposed site for an upcoming IT Park along the Amtali Bypass Road in Agartala. IT Secretary Kiran Gitte, IT Director Jiya Raghul Geshan and other concerned officials were also present during the inspections.
