Agartala: May 06: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday announced that the state government is considering deploying newly recruited Special Executives as tourist police to enhance safety and support at key tourism sites. The move aims to assist visitors and boost Tripura’s tourism potential, with the final list of 6,067 selected Special Executives expected to be published soon.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of an ADB-funded tourism infrastructure project worth ₹67 crore, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting tourism. The project will cover key locations such as Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar in the Amarpur sub-division of Gomati district.

“Tripura has immense tourism potential,” Dr. Saha said, citing iconic destinations like Neermahal, Dumboor Lake, and various archaeological sites. “We are developing modern infrastructure across several sites to attract more tourists,” he added.

He encouraged citizens to actively promote Tripura’s tourism through social media, emphasizing the role of public participation in boosting the state’s visibility.

Referring to the recent incident in Pahalgam, the Chief Minister asserted that Tripura is now free from insurgency and presents a peaceful and secure environment for tourism. He credited the Modi-led central government for restoring peace in the region.

Criticizing previous Communist and Congress governments for their lack of vision in tourism development, Dr. Saha said the current administration has already launched several initiatives. He lauded Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, expressing confidence that Tripura would soon achieve global recognition as a tourist destination.

Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Director Prashant Badal Negi, District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, and SP Namit Pathak were also present at the event.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed Thakchara Gram Panchayat building as part of his Amarpur visit.
