Agartala, July 18: The Government of Tripura is set to constitute a state-level Special Task Force (STF) headed by a Superintendent of Police (SP)-rank officer to identify and deport illegal immigrants reportedly settled in various parts of the state. This move marks a significant step towards tightening immigration control and bolstering internal security.

As a part of this initiative, a district-level Special Task Force has already been formed in West Tripura, comprising 15 police officials. The office order, signed by SP West Tripura Kiran Kumar, lists the names of these officials, including the Deputy SP of the Special Branch and 14 Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of police stations within the district.

The primary responsibility of the task force will be to collect biometric data of suspected illegal immigrants and upload it to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Foreigners Identification Portal. Following verification, the individuals will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) or relevant police units for further legal proceedings.

A senior police official informed Tripura Times that similar STFs are being set up in the remaining seven districts of Tripura using the same structure. “Each task force will include the OCs of all police stations in the respective district and one official from the Special Branch. Formation of these teams is underway, and some orders may already have been issued by district Superintendents of Police,” the official stated.

Top sources in the Tripura Police confirmed that once all district-level STFs are operational, they will report directly to the proposed state-level STF. The formation of the state-level task force is currently awaiting clearance from the Home Department.

“The file for approval has been sent, and once the green light is received, an SP-level officer will be appointed to lead the Special Task Force,” the senior official added.

This development underscores the government’s proactive approach to address concerns regarding illegal immigration and maintain demographic and security balance in the state.
