Agartala: Nov 27: On Wednesday, Sushanta Chowdhury, the Tourism Minister of Tripura, attended the opening ceremony of the 12th edition of the International Tourism Mart held in Kaziranga, Assam. This annual event, organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, aims to showcase the tourism potential of the northeastern region to both domestic and international audiences.
In his remarks to the media, Minister Chowdhury emphasized the transformative role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in reviving and promoting tourism in North East India. He pointed out that the region had long been neglected in terms of tourism development, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the region’s tourism potential has been brought to the forefront. Chowdhury noted that the central government has prioritized the tourism sector, launching numerous initiatives and schemes to improve infrastructure and enhance the tourism experience across the Northeast, including in Tripura.
Chowdhury also highlighted the significant investments being made in Tripura’s tourism infrastructure. He revealed that the state is undergoing a transformation with an investment of over Rs 500 crore aimed at developing tourist destinations, improving facilities, and making the state an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.
The event was inaugurated by Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, with the participation of prominent leaders such as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with other ministers from the northeastern states. The International Tourism Mart serves as a crucial platform for promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and tourism potential, attracting attention from tourism professionals and enthusiasts worldwide.
