In a major initiative aimed at strengthening Tripura’s livestock-based rural economy, a high-level review meeting was held at the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) Conference Hall to discuss and finalize the draft Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the ambitious project titled “Modernising the Pig Industry in the State of Tripura.”

The meeting was chaired by Tarit Kanti Chakma, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TRLM, and attended by senior representatives from Cooperl Arc Atlantique India, along with the Additional CEO of TRLM and other senior officials of the mission.

The discussions focused on creating a comprehensive and practical framework for transforming the pig farming sector in the state through technological advancement and sustainable farming practices. Officials stressed the importance of ensuring an effective system for technology transfer, adoption of scientific breeding methods and strengthening production capabilities to support long-term growth of the industry.

According to TRLM officials, the proposed collaboration is designed to improve productivity and profitability for local livestock farmers, particularly those residing in rural and cluster-based farming areas. Pig farming is an important source of livelihood for many households in Tripura, and modernisation of the sector is expected to create significant economic opportunities for farmers.

During the meeting, emphasis was also placed on introducing modern industry standards and international expertise into Tripura’s rural economy. Officials noted that the partnership with Cooperl Arc Atlantique India could facilitate the introduction of advanced farming techniques, better breeding practices and improved management systems.

Authorities believe the initiative has the potential to bring a major transformation to the state’s pig farming ecosystem by making it more organized, efficient and economically sustainable. The project is also expected to enhance income generation opportunities for rural communities while promoting scientific methods in livestock farming.

Officials described the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening rural livelihoods and empowering pig farmers across the state. Once implemented, the project is expected to contribute to broader economic development goals and support sustainable growth within Tripura’s agricultural and livestock sectors.
