Agartala: Feb 21: The Tripura United Indigenous Revolutionary Peoples’ Council (TUIRPC) has announced plans to block the national highway in Baramura on February 25. The organization’s president, Daniel Debbarma, led a delegation to the bridge area in Baramura on Friday, where he informed the media about their upcoming protest. The blockade will begin at 6 am on February 25, as part of their ongoing struggle to fulfill the promises made to them by the government.

According to Debbarma, the government had previously assured them that their demands would be addressed through a peace agreement. Following this assurance, many individuals associated with the group had surrendered and returned to civilian life. However, Debbarma stated that the government has failed to fulfill these commitments, particularly in providing the promised food and accommodation. As a result, many former militants are now left without the support they were promised, making their situation even more difficult.

Debbarma also criticized the Tripura Tribal Welfare Department for its inefficiency, claiming that the department is not addressing their issues, which has exacerbated their problems. He emphasized that the TUIRPC feels compelled to take this drastic step of blocking the highway as a way to demand their rights, which they believe have been ignored.

The planned blockade in Baramura represents a growing frustration among the group’s members, who feel that their sacrifices and commitments to reintegration into normal life have not been met with the support they were promised. The situation remains tense as the group seeks to draw attention to their grievances and force the government to act.
