Agartala, May 16: A young man lost his life in a tragic railway accident early Saturday morning after being struck by a Sabroom–Agartala bound train near Kalapara and Durgaraipara under Santirbazar subdivision in South Tripura district.

According to police officials, the identity of the deceased has not yet been established. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the victim’s head and face badly crushed. The incident created panic and grief among local residents, many of whom rushed to the spot after hearing about the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Manpathar Police Station, Jayanta Das, said preliminary investigation suggests that the youth was hit by a moving train while on or near the railway tracks. However, the exact circumstances leading to the accident are still under investigation.

Local residents suspect that the victim may have gone out for a morning walk and was walking along the railway line when the mishap occurred. People living in the area claimed that accidents of a similar nature had taken place earlier as well, raising concerns about safety along the railway route.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Santirbazar Fire and Emergency Service reached the spot and recovered the body. The deceased was later sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Officials are also trying to identify the deceased and contact his family members.

The tragic death has cast a shadow of sorrow across the locality, with residents expressing concern over repeated railway accidents in the area. Several locals urged the railway authorities and administration to adopt stronger safety measures, including awareness drives, fencing near vulnerable stretches, and increased monitoring around railway tracks to prevent such incidents in the future.

Residents said many people frequently use the railway tracks as walking paths due to lack of proper pedestrian routes, increasing the risk of accidents. They appealed to the authorities to take immediate preventive steps to ensure public safety and avoid recurrence of such tragic incidents.
