Agartala: Dec 12: On December 12, 2024, leaders from the Mizo Convention met with Shri Sushanta Chowdhury, the Tourism Minister, at Eden Lodge on Jampui Hill to discuss several important proposals aimed at boosting tourism in the region. The meeting was attended by Shri UK Chakma, IAS, Secretary of the Tourism Department, and Mr. BC Nunga, the BAC Chairman of Jampui Hill RD Block, alongside the Mizo leaders.

The focus of the discussion was on the development of Jampui Hill’s tourism infrastructure. The Mizo leaders presented several key ideas for improving the area’s tourism appeal. These included the construction of a Sky-walk, the development of a trekking route, the establishment of an eco-park, and the promotion of Thaidawr Tlâng (Betlingchhip) as a nature reserve. Additionally, they proposed the further redevelopment of the Tlaksih paragliding site. These proposals aim to enhance the tourism experience while preserving the region’s natural beauty and supporting the local economy.

The discussions were set against the success of the recent Tourism Promo Fest held at the Vanghmun playground in Jampui Hill. The main theme of the meeting centered on a tourism model that is community-based, eco-friendly, and sustainable. The Mizo leaders emphasized the importance of tourism initiatives that benefit the local community economically, protect the environment, and promote local arts, crafts, and culture.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury welcomed the proposals and invited the Mizo leaders to visit his office after Christmas to continue the discussions and explore the practical aspects of these ideas. The Mizo leaders gladly accepted the invitation, indicating their commitment to working together for the future development of tourism in Jampui Hill. This collaboration reflects the government’s dedication to sustainable tourism that benefits both the environment and the local community.
