Agartala, September 24: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated an Urban Polyclinic at AD Nagar and virtually opened new Ayushman Arogya Mandir buildings at five locations, underlining the state government’s focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure and services at the community level.
The Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities inaugurated virtually are located at Radhanagar, Dhaleswar, Jagaharimura, Ujan Abhoynagar and Ramakrishna Shivalaya Ashram.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said strengthening healthcare delivery close to people’s homes was among the government’s priorities. He said efforts were underway to upgrade medical infrastructure across the state, covering both primary care and specialised treatment.
The Chief Minister said nearly 1,110 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been inaugurated across Tripura so far. These centres, he said, have expanded access to primary healthcare for people in rural as well as urban areas and enabled residents to receive various services locally.
Dr. Saha also cited a steady reduction in the number of patients sent outside Tripura for treatment. He said 555 patients were referred outside the state in 2023, followed by 495 in 2024 and 366 in 2025. So far in 2026, the number stands at 161, according to figures cited by him.
He attributed the decline to the strengthening of healthcare infrastructure and the availability of advanced treatment facilities within Tripura.
Dr. Saha said the government would continue working towards a modern and people-oriented health system, with emphasis on infrastructure development from primary healthcare centres to advanced and specialised medical facilities.
MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Bishal Kumar, West Tripura Chief Medical Officer Shankar Chakraborty, senior Health Department officials, elected representatives and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
