Agartala, Oct 28 : The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has received 8,956 applications from aspiring entrepreneurs across the state for its incubation programme aimed at promoting rural enterprises and generating sustainable livelihood opportunities, officials said.
The initiative, implemented with technical support from IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP), seeks to identify promising business ideas at the grassroots level and help transform them into viable enterprises through structured mentoring, training and incubation support.
TRLM conducted awareness and outreach programmes across all 58 blocks of Tripura to encourage participation and identify individuals interested in setting up their own businesses.
Following a screening process, 251 aspiring entrepreneurs have been shortlisted and are currently undergoing specialised pitch-training sessions, officials said.
The training is designed to help participants refine their business proposals, strengthen their presentation skills and prepare to present their ideas before an expert evaluation panel.
In the next phase, the shortlisted candidates will participate in the Challenge Fund Jury Round, during which their proposals will be evaluated on parameters such as innovation, feasibility, sustainability and potential impact.
Of the 251 candidates, 150 will be selected for incubation support to help them develop their business ideas into operational enterprises, officials said.
The programme aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with more than financial assistance, focusing on building business knowledge, entrepreneurial confidence and practical skills required to establish and sustain enterprises.
Through its collaboration with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, TRLM is seeking to connect rural entrepreneurs with professional mentorship, business development guidance and a structured support system.
The initiative is expected to encourage self-employment, promote innovation and create alternative livelihood opportunities, particularly among rural youth and communities.
Officials said supporting enterprises at the grassroots level could help strengthen local economies by enabling people to generate income and create employment within their communities.
The programme also seeks to reduce dependence on conventional employment avenues by encouraging individuals to explore entrepreneurship as a sustainable livelihood option.
The response to the initiative, reflected in the number of applications received from across the state, highlights the interest among aspiring entrepreneurs in developing independent business ventures, officials said.
The incubation programme is part of broader efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote enterprise-led development in Tripura.
By combining grassroots outreach with professional mentoring and structured evaluation, TRLM aims to help promising entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses and contribute to the state's long-term economic growth.
