Agartala, April 21: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed law enforcement agencies to take strict action against those involved in violence following the results of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. Incidents of unrest were reported across the state after the April 17 declaration of results.

The TTAADC polls, held on April 12, saw the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) retain control of the 30-member council for a second consecutive term, winning 24 of the 28 elected seats. The BJP secured four seats. The council governs nearly 70% of Tripura’s geographical area, making it a key constitutional body after the state Assembly.

After meeting affected BJP workers at a relief shelter in Agartala, Saha emphasized that violence and intimidation would not be tolerated. He announced a high-level review meeting with senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, to assess the situation.

Saha reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that strict legal action would be taken against anyone responsible for disruption. He also assured relief and rehabilitation for victims, announcing financial aid of ₹64.50 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for 258 affected families in the first phase.

State BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee alleged that many party workers were displaced due to attacks, including an incident involving BJP candidate Abhijit Debbarma’s family.

Meanwhile, TMP leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma urged supporters to avoid violence and maintain unity, warning that internal conflicts would harm all communities.

The elections were contested separately by BJP and its allies after failing to reach a pre-p

oll agreement.
